Here come the Judge Robert e Elijah wood 3/20/18 1 Peter 4-17 for the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And "If the righteous man is scarcely saved, where will the impious and sinner appear?" 19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will do right and entrust their souls to a faithful Creator. For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?” Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing well, as to a faithful Creator. a. For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God: In the context of suffering, Peter tells us that judgment begins at the house of God. Right now, God uses suffering as a judgment (in a positive, purifying sense) for Christians (the house of God! You got to wonder and ask the question what kind of suffering is Peter talking about.1Peter 4:1 since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same thought, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. Attitudes for end-times believers. 1. (1 Pe 4:1-2) in the last days, Christians should have an attitude of commitment... a. Since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind set: The commitment God calls us to have is nothing greater than the commitment Jesus had in enduring suffering for our salvation. In the last days we need to have a commitment to God that will endure through great struggles! This is not telling us that we have to pay for us sins or suffer like Christ when it came to redeeming us. But it is telling us be prepared for persecution and hardship. Just as Jesus suffered on the way to the cross and gave us an example to follow too many Christians today have no clue about the sufferings that Christ and God require for his children to become Holy and Pure and Blameless. Here is some examples Steven suffered persecution at the hand of the Sanhedrin when they ordered Paul to kill him for his faith. James the brother of John who suffered persecution by being beheaded by King Herod. And again Peter and John being thrown into prison then beaten with whipped. But these things took place 2000 years ago can every one of them said it is good for us to suffer for our Lord sake. I. It is right for judgment to begin at the house of God. “There is equity in it; for Christians profess to be better than others, and so they ought to be. They say they are regenerate, so they ought to be regenerate. They say that they are a holy people, separated unto Christ; so they ought to be holy, and separate from sinners, as he was.” This quote sounds like self-righteousness on the behalf of the Christian. But can you really say that they don't deserve to be judged by God. The church today in America specially cannot be separated from the world you cannot tell the difference between the people who go to church and the people who go to a bar. They says they are better than world and they should be better than the world. They said they are Holy and they should be in holiness because without holding is no one will be able to see God. See one thing about suffering it purges the carnal Christian from the Holy Christian. Look back in history when Islamic horde began to conquer the world the church suffered great persecution many died for their faith but also a lot more Christians gave up their faith for the love of their own life and they became Muslims. Before Muhammad was born Christianity had already conquered the entire world with the gospel under the banner of the Roman Empire not under the banner of Jesus Christ. So God the Father the Sovereign one of Heaven and Earth ordered the hordes to come and persecute his people because they were in the world and also living like the world. Look at Verse 18 there is one word that I want to look at and that word is scarcely.18 and "If the righteous man is scarcely saved, this word scarcely is to find in the dictionary: only just; almost not. This reminds me of the goats and the Sheep the goats were almost saved but not saved, there are many Christians within the church were almost saved but they are not safe. So God raises up persecution and suffering to move the chat from the wheat to crush the olive to get the oil. To remove meaning sin that is in the believer. Question too many people who go around claiming to be a believer in Jesus Christ but live a life filled with sin they are not holy but Unholy unrighteous. Now is our time of fiery trial (1 Peter 4:12); the ungodly will have their fire later. The fire we endure now purifies us; the fire the ungodly will endure will punish them. Yet we always remember that there is never any punishment from God for us in our sufferings, only purification. For the Christian, the issue of punishment was settled once and for all at the cross, where Jesus endured all the punishment the Christian could ever face from God. The same fire that consumes straw will purify gold. The fire is the same, but its purpose in application is different, and its effect is different upon the straw and the gold. Even so, Christians do suffer some of the same things the ungodly do, yet the purpose of God is different and the effect is different. Zechariah 13:9 RSV - 9 And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are my people'; and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'" Israel / Church scattered, smitten, refined, and saved. I will bring the one-third through the fire: After the dispersion of Israel there will come a time of devastation and purification through fiery trials. Two-thirds will be destroyed and the remaining third will be put into the fire but preserved. Roman 11:20-21 that is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast only through faith. So do not become proud, but stand in awe. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. In Zachariah God did not spare Israel from the trials he told them to go into captivity let me come the slaves of the Assyrians and the Babylonians. And those who did not go he destroyed and those who went into captivity or who died by the sword or purged purified like silver and gold is purified and their faith was tested a gold is tested. So God does not show favor when dealing with a stubborn people and the people of the body of Christ what was good enough for Jesus Christ is good enough for the body. So set your mind get ready to be purged and purified come out with shiny glitter like silver and gold. Or you will be the scum that comes from the top, there is no profit in the scum. The silver and the gold meanwhile will be used to create your crown. The Bible says that God will test the works and the attitudes the key test silver and precious stones, wood hay and paper they will burn up and there will be nothing but ashes. So set your mind and make a commitment to God that you are ready to go through the hardships that you will not deny his name and lordship remember Jesus said he that denies me before men I will deny him before the father and his Angel but he that confesses me among men I will confess him among my father be the latter. 1Cor 3:11-13 11For no other foundation (Relationship) can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any one builds on the foundation (Relationship) with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw-- 13 each man's work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.15 if any man's work is burned up, and he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. So, let each one take heed how he builds on it. There is only one foundation for the church. If it isn’t founded on Jesus Christ, it isn’t a church at all. So one can’t build on any other foundation; but one can build unworthily on the one foundation. c. God will test the building work of all His fellow workers, so each one’s work will become manifest. Some build with precious things like gold, silver, precious stones; others build with unworthy materials like wood, hay, and straw. I. By using the figures of gold, silver, and precious stones, Paul seems to have in mind the building materials used in the construction of the temple (1 Chronicles 22:14, 22:16, and 29:2). The “building” is what God builds in His people with the help of His fellow workers. ii. Precious stones doesn’t mean jewels, but fine stone materials like marble and granite. Mixing the wisdom of men with the wisdom of God in the work of building the church is like using alternate layers of straw and marble in building. Straw may be fine, it may have a place (in the barn), but it is an inadequate building material. In the same way, human wisdom and fleshly attractions may have a place in life, but not in the building of the church. d. The fire will test each one’s work: When God tests our work, it will be revealed what kind of work it was. Just as fire will destroy wood, hay, and straw, but not gold, silver, and precious stones; so the work of some will be revealed nothing on that Day.Here come the Judge Robert e Elijah wood 3/20/18 1 Peter 4-17 for the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And "If the righteous man is scarcely saved, where will the impious ...See more
